POSITION SUMMARY

Experience Mount Vernon is seeking a creative, organized, and proactive individual to serve as our Public Space Enhancement Coordinator. This part-time position will lead and support beautification and aesthetic enhancement projects throughout Downtown Mount Vernon, serving as the central point of contact for public space improvements. The ideal candidate will have a passion for placemaking, an eye for detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to maintain and elevate the vibrancy of the downtown district.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and implement public space enhancement and beautification efforts, including seasonal decor, public art, signage, pole banner sponsorship program, streetscape elements, and more.

  • Serve as the primary liaison for beautification-related inquiries and ideas, collaborating with the City of Mount Vernon, community partners, local businesses, and volunteers.

  • Identify opportunities for new projects and initiatives that enhance the visual appeal and overall experience of Downtown Mount Vernon.

  • Manage ongoing maintenance of existing beautification features (e.g., hanging baskets, holiday decorations, pole banners, utility box wraps, etc.).

  • Assist in developing budgets, timelines, and logistics for enhancement projects.

  • Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers as needed.

  • Track progress, outcomes, and community feedback to continuously improve aesthetics-related efforts.

  • Attend monthly Experience Mount Vernon Board Meetings and Aesthetics Committee Meetings and prepare reports as necessary. 

  • Assist with Experience Mount Vernon events.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for community development, urban beautification, and public space enhancement.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff, volunteers, board members, and other stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with web-based design tools.

  • Experience with project management, public art, landscaping, or a related field is a plus.

  • Creative problem-solving skills and a willingness to think outside the box. 

  • Basic familiarity with Downtown Mount Vernon is preferred.

  • Post-secondary certification or degree preferred.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Part-Time: 20 hours per week (flexible scheduling)

  • Location: Mount Vernon, Ohio

  • Compensation: $17-19 per hour, commensurate with experience

  • Start Date: Open until filled
