With a deep passion for organizational leadership, economic development, and professional growth, Matt works closely with chamber executives and their teams to strengthen their chambers and elevate their impact within their communities. With over two decades of Chamber CEO experience, Matt leads strategic planning, professional development programming, statewide events, advocacy initiatives, and partnership development. He is committed to equipping chamber leaders with practical tools, peer connections, and innovative resources that help them navigate today?s evolving business environment. Under his leadership, CPO has expanded its training opportunities, enhanced member engagement, and strengthened collaborative relationships with key partners, including the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and regional chamber networks. Known for his collaborative leadership style and practical approach, Matt is driven by a belief that strong chambers build strong communities. He is dedicated to advancing the profession of chamber management while fostering a supportive statewide network that empowers chamber professionals to succeed, grow, and lead with confidence. Matt is a proud U.S. Navy Veteran and served onboard the USS Bainbridge CGN-25 as a missile technician. Together Matt and his wife Christa have three adult children: Gannon, Hudson, and Brecken. The Owen family are huge Ohio State Buckeyes fans and enjoy hiking, fishing and attending sporting events.
Ribbon Cutting - Becker Mining Systems Aviation Education Center
The public is invited to attend a special event held at the Knox County Regional Airport on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Airport leadership will celebrate the new Becker Mining Systems Aviation Education Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. and other activities for the community. This event marks the dedication of the airport?s new 10,000-square-foot hangar?a major investment in the future of aviation, education and community involvement in Knox County. The new center will house and de-ice jets; serve as home to the growing Civil Air Patrol unit; and provide meeting space for FFA, 4-H, The Ohio State University Extension programs and other community organizations and civic events. The June 27 Open House event will feature static aircraft displays, plane rides, flight simulator experience, a flyover during the dedication ceremony, food trucks, touch-a-truck activities, giveaways from local businesses and much more for adults and children alike. Free parking will be available, with volunteers directing traffic throughout the day. Several special guests will be on hand for the spoken part of the event program, beginning at 11 a.m., including Senator Andrew Brenner, Representatives Mark Hiner and Beth Lear, and Mount Vernon Mayor Matt Starr. ?The airport?s hangars are full, while aviation activity continues to grow with an extended runway and refurbished terminal. Whether you?re an aviation enthusiast, curious about flight or simply looking for a great family afternoon, this is your chance to see what?s happening at the Knox County Airport, and why it matters to the future of our community,? explained Mark Fritz, airport authority board member and event co-chair. The Knox County Regional Airport Authority is committed to supporting economic development, aviation access, education and community engagement throughout Knox County and central Ohio. The airport is home to a growing general aviation community with fully occupied hangars and a significant waiting list. Experiencing approximately 50 aircraft landings and takeoffs daily, the airport serves as an active transportation hub connecting Knox County to the broader region. The airport?s newly constructed Becker Mining Systems Aviation Education Center further expands its role as a community asset. Through continued growth and public outreach, the airport aims to introduce residents to one of Knox County?s most valuable yet often overlooked resources.

Educators' Breakfast 2026
Each year the Knox County Chamber of Commerce welcomes new educators to Knox County by hosting a breakfast. The breakfast offers businesses the opportunity to meet these educators and show support for their important role of teaching the next generation of leaders. Guest speaker: Dr. Barry, President of Central Ohio Technical College Register by Friday, July 31 to reserve your seat. Cancellations after July 31, and no-shows will be invoiced.
