Kenyon College - Center for the Study of American Democracy

On April 9-11, 2014, the Center for the Study of American Democracy at Kenyon College will host its third biennial conference, entitled The Politics of Economic Inequality. Addressing both recent economic headlines and more timeless questions about liberal democracy, the conference will bring together participants from a wide range of backgrounds, including politicians, journalists, members of the business world, policy analysts, NGO representatives, and academics.

Confirmed guests included speaker Douglas Holtz-Eakin, President of American Action Forum, former Congressional Budget Office director, and most recently a Commissioner on the congressionally-chartered Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission (April 9, 7:30pm); Austan Goolsbee, former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers for President Obama (April 10, 7:30pm); well known journalists Ezra Klein of MSNBC and Ross Douthat of the New York Times (April 10, 2:45pm); Harvard Sociologist Robert Putnam, author of Bowling Alone and other prize-winning books (April 10, 11:10am); historian Amity Shlaes, a director at the George W. Bush Institute and author of The Forgotten Man and Coolidge (April 11, 9:00am)--and many other distinguished guests.

Participants will engage each other and the larger community through lectures, panel discussions, and social events. The conference will be held on the Kenyon College campus, in Rosse Hall and in the Community Foundation Theatre in Gund Gallery. A more complete schedule will be available in the coming weeks.  Admission to all panels are free and open to the public.  The director of the Center, Tom Karako, is a member of the 2013-14  class of Leadership Knox, and also the chair of the Knox County Chamber's Legislative Affairs Committee.
